Barcelona accused of tax fraud in Neymar signing

Spanish public prosecutors are asking for the investigation of Josep Maria Bartomeu, current Barcelona president over a tax charge in 2014 which could be as high as 2.85 million euros and also have been asking for the former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell to be charged with two allegedly tax fraud that were committed in the signing of the Brazilian star Neymar.

During this monday, a Judicial file was released and prosecutor Jose Perals Calleja suggested in the file that Rosell and Barcelona declared an inferior fee to that they paid for Neymar during his 2013 signing.

Barcelona declared a 57 million euros to the spanish tax authorities, but the prosecutors believe that the cost was a lot higher. In the file released the cite a 82 million euros divided into separate contracts that secured the Brazilian signing.

With this alleged increase of the contract, Barcelon owe to the Spanish tax authorities a total of 12.1 million euros according to their calculations and this will put the operation just behind the 100 million mark.

Rosell resigned from his position as president just a year ago when a club member complaint for misappropriation of funds was taken to court. During Rosell testimony in front of the judge, he insisted that the cost for the club for Neymar signing was 57 million, 17 for the former club Santos and the rest for N&N, a company owned by the player’s father.

But after Rosell resignation, the club has confirmed a number of extra contracts which include a signing bones for the player of 10 million and an agreement between the two clubs which put the total to 86 million euros.

Last year, Barcelona made a voluntary payment to the tax authorities of 13.5 million euros in February regarding the transfer.
